Originally from Limerick, Jamin joined us in October 2021 to be part of the Liberate Team. He has since moved internally to another team, Dublin 12 RUA, as a Youth Justice Worker. In his own words:
“I am passionate about my role as it is a powerful catalyst for change in a young person’s life where they may only view one trajectory. In Solas Project, I see myself as a small cog in a very large wheel. We are a team all moving in the same direction. This organisation has many facets, but we all have the same goal: to work collaboratively with the young people and the wider community, to achieve social justice, to ensure that young people do not feel discriminated against and to create conditions for social change. My goal is to work alongside young people to design their own blueprint for their own life, rather than following the one they believe they must follow. What I enjoy most about my role is that in spite of advance planning, I never know what to expect from one day to the next. I wake up each morning with a pleasant sense of anticipation for what the day will bring."
Jamin, who himself was involved in offending behaviour at an early age, strives to support young people who have become entangled with the criminal justice system. Jamin's intention is to partner with young people to overcome societal barriers whilst exploring the pro-social possibilities that life has to offer. Through this partnership, Jamin aims to enable young people to experience and cultivate a sense of ownership in their own lives and community, as well as to harness a sense of confidence and belief in themselves.
Multi-talented Jamin has a first-class honors degree in Photography & Visual Culture, a Master’s in Art Research, both from the Institute of Art, Design and Technology, and has received a first-class Master’s in Community & Youth Work from Maynooth University. Outside of work he's into the arts, yoga, kick-boxing and martial arts.
